Steps

  1. Practice on dolls. Pretend your Barbie doll needs to get a haircut.
    • Buy some dolls.
    • Shampoo, rinse, condition, and style your dolls hair.
  2. Watch videos. YouTube is a great place to watch videos.
    • Watching videos helps you learn and understand what being a hairstylist is like.
  3. Play with friends. Call some friends and play hair stylist with them, but don't cut their hair!
  4. Get a doll head with hair. You can pretend to practice on a real person with a doll head its just like a real person.
  5. Practice on wigs. Get a few wigs and give them haircuts. You can wear your wigs to make it look like you have a haircut without cutting your real hair.
  6. Learn from a real hairstylist. If you know anyone who is or was a hairstylist ask them how they became so good at it.
  7. Go to beauty school when you get older. Beauty school is a school like a vocational school or college but teaches you everything you need to know to become a stylist. Students can practice on each other to get very good at styling hair.
  8. Learn everything you can. Don't skip classes, you need to know everything about hair to become a stylist. You also need to learn how to highlight, cut, dye and do other things to hair. If you miss classes, there will be things you don't know about.
  9. Do your research. Go on-line and find articles and videos on how to be a good hair stylist and hairdresser.
  10. Look through magazines and study the hairstyles of the models. Think about how their hair is cut to get that style.

Tips

  • Buy a few dolls for practice, then when you are done practicing on them display them so everyone can see how great you are.

  • If you are using a Barbie doll for practice, do not use a curler, blow dryer or anything hot on your dolls hair.
