Buy a Used Dirt Bike
You've decided you want a dirt bike, but you don't want to invest in a brand new one? You can find a used one. You just need to know what to look for!
Steps
- Don't judge a book by its cover. Just because the bike isn't as "cool looking" as a more recent bike doesn't mean it won't suit your needs. You pay a hefty price for a good-looking bike. As long as it works well, you can always pretty it up later. Focus on performance.
- Avoid used bikes that have been raced. There's a good chance the bike has been ridden hard and had more chance of high impact crashes.
- Inspect the bike carefully. Look for oil leaks, coolant leaks, dirt build-up, and engine case damage. Check the brake pads. Check the condition of the tires and wheels.
- Pay attention to the surroundings. How well does the owner take care of the rest of his stuff? If all his other things are poorly maintained, odds are the bike was, too.
- Try to estimate how much you'll need to spend on repairs. If you have to spend twice the money you paid for it on repairing it, it's probably not a good deal.
