Change Wiper Blades on an Infiniti Q50

Over time, windshield wiper blades can wear down, causing the wiper blades to leave streaks of water across your windshield when turned on. This can happen more often in hotter climates, especially if the car is parked in direct sunlight for long periods of time. It can also happen during a harsh winter, as the wiper blades are being used more frequently to help clear snow and ice off the windshield. It’s important to make sure that your wiper blades are maintained so that you don’t find yourself in a dangerous situation when driving in heavy rain or snowy/icy conditions. This step-by-step guide will show you how to install wiper blades on an Infiniti Q50, as the wiper blades typically rest tucked in under the hood of the car.

Steps

  1. Make sure you have the right wiper blades.
    • Although it may seem obvious, it’s important to be sure that you have the correct size wiper blades for the car. Most stores have a book that lists all the wiper blade sizes in most cars on the road today. Alternatively, you could always refer to your owner’s manual to be sure.
    • The driver’s side wiper blade on the 2017 Infiniti Q50S is 26 inches; 17 inches on the passenger side.
  2. Put the car in accessory mode.
    • In order to remove the wiper blades on the car, you must switch the car into accessory mode.
    • Push the START/STOP button two times with your foot OFF the brake in order to switch into accessory mode
    • Alternatively, if you have just turned off the car, you may skip this step.
  3. Raise the wiper blades and lock them in place.
    • In order to access the wiper blades, push up on the right stalk (wiper blade controls) two times, with minimal delay between pushes.
    • The wiper blades should move up and then lock in place, as shown in the image.
  4. Carefully lift up the driver’s side wiper blade.
    • After lifting up the driver’s side wiper blade, it should bend and hold in place.
  5. Tilt the wiper blade to expose the release clip.
  6. Hold down the release clip and carefully, but firmly pull down on the wiper blade.
    • Using one hand, hold onto the wiper blade arm that’s attached to the car.
    • With the other hand, use one finger to press down on the release clip and pull the wiper blade down towards the windshield of the car.
    • Be careful to not pull too hard, as you may damage the wiper blade arm or the windshield.
  7. Remove your new wiper blades from the packaging (if you haven’t already).
    • Make sure that you’re installing the 26 inch wiper blade on the driver’s side.
  8. Carefully open the plastic tab to expose the inner clip.
    • Using two fingers, squeeze both sides of the plastic tab and rotate it to open it.
  9. Connect the J-hook of the wiper blade arm to the new wiper blade.
    • It helps to line up the part beneath the “J” part of the hook and then slide the wiper blade upwards into the clip.
    • Be sure to hold the wiper blade arm with one hand and the wiper blade with the other, to ensure you do not damage the wiper blade arm.
    • Pull firmly, but carefully, and when the wiper blade is fixed in the right position you should feel it click and lock into place.
  10. Close the plastic tab at the top, locking the wiper blade in place.
  11. Carefully lower the wiper blade onto your windshield.
  12. Repeat for the passenger side wiper blade.
    • The passenger side wiper blade is smaller, measuring 17 inches as opposed to the 26 inch blade on the driver’s side.
  13. Test the wiper blades to ensure that they don’t leave any streaks on the windshield.
    • Pull the wiper blade control stalk towards you to rinse the windshield with washer fluid.
    • Alternatively, if it’s raining outside, go outside and turn on the wiper blades
  14. Turn your vehicle off.
    • Although the Infiniti Q50 has a power saving feature where it will automatically turn off if it’s been left in accessory mode for too long, it’s a good idea to just make sure the car is properly turned off.
    • To turn the vehicle off, press the START/STOP button with your foot OFF the brake.
  15. Disposal of old wiper blades.
    • If you want to reuse your OEM wiper blades, keep them to swap out the rubber inserts. This can be done at most dealerships.
    • Alternatively, if you do not wish to keep your OEM wiper blades, dispose of them with your regular household waste.

Warnings
