Check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) in 1993 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokees
If the 'Check Engine' light in your 1993-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee is on, you don't have to pay extra for a repair shop to check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's). You are able to check for these codes yourself by just using your key!
Steps
- Place the ignition key into the ignition slot, and turn to ON (NOT RUN) 3-5 times.
- Count how many times the 'Check Engine' light flashes. Each time there is a slight pause, that is the first digit of a 2-digit code. (i.e. If the 'Check Engine' light flashes 5 times, then pauses, then flashes again 5 times, the first code is '55'). Longer pauses indicate the start of a second 2-digit code. Write these codes down.
- The code '55' indicates the end of sequence (this will appear if no codes are present or if the 'Check Engine' light is not on).
- Go to: http://www.nagca.com/grandtech/troubleshootcodes.htm to check for a list of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) and find the codes that apply to your vehicle.
