Choose Your Stripper/Exotic Dancer Stage Name

Deciding what your stripper/exotic dancer stage name will be is an important decision. If your city requires you to obtain an ‘Adult Entertainer’s Permit,’ your stage name will be on all documentation submitted as well as the permit itself. Changing this will involve extra paperwork and an extra trip to the permit and licensing department, so choosing your stripper name carefully is important. Your stripper name will decide how much attention you get and obviously how much money you make.

Steps

  1. Figure out possible names that interest you. Decide if you want a ‘real’ sounding name like, “Lisa” or a more stripper sounding name such as “Mercedes.”
  2. Get creative. Get a piece of paper and write down any ideas that come to mind. It used to be the norm that dancers chose names of spices or cities such as Cinnamon or Brooklyn, but more and more frequently, strippers are using ‘real’ sounding names such as Jessica and Amber. Other popular names include: Angel, Jenna, Houston, Sapphire, Lexus, Vixen, Jade, Jasmine, and Dallas.
  3. Narrow it down. Once you’ve got your list together, pick your top three and then follow steps four and five below.
  4. See if any of the names you want are already taken. Because you’ll most likely pick your stage name before you actually start working, it’s important to go to the club you want to work at and either ask someone in management, a waitress, a bartender, or another dancer if another exotic dancer works there with any of the names you’re considering.
  5. See if any of the names you want rhyme with one already taken. Believe it or not, it’s common to have stripper names sound similar or rhyme (ex. Foxy and Roxy), so it’s important that you choose a unique name. The reason you don’t want a name that rhymes with another dancer is because when the D.J. calls your name over the microphone, you don’t want to accidentally go on stage, ditch the customer you were giving a lap dance to, and then realize it’s not your turn.
  6. Pick the best one. Now that you’ve checked to see if your top three stripper names are available, choose the one you think you’ll be the most comfortable with. Don’t be afraid to ask friends or even other dancers at the club for their opinion. Using the stripper name “Shy” helped create customer interest and attention. Customers would ask, “Are you REALLY shy?!” As you can see, using the proper stage name can get customers to wonder who you are and what you’re like, so try to pick something that can create a good opening or conversation piece with your customer.

Tips

  • Try to pick a name that fits your personality but also draws attention to yourself.
  • Your stage name will become second nature to you, so don’t worry if it doesn’t feel natural at first.
  • You’re always going to get the question, “What’s your real name?” so if you choose a stage name that is more on the ‘real’ side, you can always say, “Lisa IS my real name!”

Warnings

  • Once you’ve picked your stage name, make sure this is the only name you give to customers and other dancers. It’s important to keep your private information safe. You wouldn't want anyone to pick up on the fact that you're Timmy's mom.
