Clean Xbox 360 Wireless Controllers
If you're like most gamers, you use your Xbox controllers enough that the controllers need maintenance. Cleaning them out every once in a while helps them function better, plus it's more sanitary. Keep reading for detailed instructions on cleaning your Xbox controllers.
Steps
- Set your controller(s) on a clean surface such as a table or maybe the coffee table in the living room.
- Go grab some toothpicks and some cotton swabs (the ones you clean your ears with).
- With a toothpick in your hand pick up a controller and look at the triggers. You should see some dirt where the trigger disappears into the controller itself.
- Scrape off the dirt with the toothpick; if it doesn't scrape off easily, try something like a needle or a pin to loosen it. But be careful while doing this.
- Clean the start and back buttons by probing the little triangles with the point of the toothpick.
- Run the pointy side of the toothpick along the seam of the top and bottom half of the controllers.
- If you have a stain, try a little bit of rubbing alcohol on the swabs and brush it until the stain is gone.
Tips
- Have a lot of toothpicks and cotton swabs, eventually cleaning will flatten the point of the toothpick and dirty the swab until you are just moving dirt around instead of lifting it off.
- Wash your hands before you play, eating and playing do not mix.
- Also have a cloth to wipe off the dirt from the toothpick.
Warnings
- Don't open up the controller unless you know what you're doing. If not chances are you'll ruin it.
- Also don't use a lot of water; water and electronics don't like each other. You may consider using isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) as it will evaporate quickly. It can also remove some stains easier than water.
- Don't get anything stuck in the controller; this is very bad.
