Close Apps on a Samsung Galaxy

This article teaches you how to close the apps that are open or running in the background of a Samsung Galaxy device.

Steps

Closing Recently Accessed Apps on Galaxy S5 or Newer

  1. Tap the Recent Apps button. It's located to the left of the home button on the face of the device. Doing so displays a list of all the applications you have recently accessed but haven't closed.
  2. Scroll through the apps. Scroll until you locate the app(s) you want to close.
  3. Tap and drag an app. Drag the app or apps you want to close to either edge of the screen. Doing so closes the apps you drag off-screen.
    • Alternatively, tap the X in the upper-right corner of any app you'd like to close.
    • To close all open apps at once, tap Close All at the bottom of the screen.

Closing Recently Accessed Apps on Galaxy S4

  1. Go to the Home screen of your Samsung Galaxy device.
  2. Press and hold the Home button on your device. Doing so displays a list of all the applications you have recently accessed but haven't closed.
  3. Scroll through the apps. Scroll up until you locate the app or apps you want to close.
  4. Tap and drag an app. Drag the apps you want to close to either edge of the screen. Doing so closes the apps you drag off-screen.
    • To close all open apps at once, tap the Remove All icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Closing Background Apps

  1. Go to the home screen of your Samsung Galaxy.
  2. Open Task Manager (Smart Manager on the Galaxy S7).
    • Galaxy S4: Press and hold the Home button on your device. When it appears, tap Task Manager in the lower left corner of the screen.
    • Galaxy S5-S6: Tap the Recent Apps button. It's located to the left of the Home button on the face of the device. Tap Task Manager in the lower left corner of the screen.
    • Galaxy S7: Swipe down from the top edge of the screen. Tap ⚙️ at the top edge of the screen to open Settings, then tap Smart Manager and RAM.
  3. Tap End. It's located next to each running app. Tap End for every app you want to close.
    • To close all background apps at once, tap End all.
  4. Tap on OK when prompted. Doing so confirms that you want to close the app or apps. [1].

Warnings

  • Before closing or ending certain applications, make sure that you save any important data, otherwise, any unsaved changes will be discarded as soon as the application is closed.
