Contact Your Uber Driver

In order to contact your Uber driver, you'll first need to request an Uber pickup. After doing so, you can easily contact your driver from within the app by tapping their name card and selecting the "Contact" option. In the event that you need to contact your driver after the ride is over, your options are much more limited; however, you can do so from Uber's website if you need to recover a lost item.

Steps

Contacting Your Driver

  1. Order an Uber. To text or call your driver from within the app, you'll first have to order a ride.
  2. Tap your driver's name. This will appear on a card at the bottom of your screen.
  3. Tap Contact.
  4. Decide on a contact method. Your choices include:
    • Call - Call your driver from within the Uber app. They will not see your phone number.
    • Message - Send your driver a message in the Uber app. Again, they won't see your number.
  5. Tap Call or Message. If you decide to text, type in your message and tap Send.
  6. Wait for a response. If your Uber driver is currently driving, they likely won't get back to you immediately.

Calling for a Lost Item

  1. Open Uber's Lost Item webpage. If you aren't already logged into Uber's website, you'll need to click Log In in the top right corner of your screen, then enter your email address and password.
  2. Select a trip. This should be the trip on which you believe you lost your item(s); you can do this from the drop-down menu beneath the "Select a trip" text.
  3. Type in your phone number. You'll need to do this in the field below the "Select a trip" section.
  4. Click Submit.
  5. Wait for a response. Clicking Submit will call your phone and connect your directly to your driver's phone number. If they don't pick up, consider leaving a message or calling them an hour or two later.
  6. Consider submitting an appeal. If you don't hear back from your driver for several days in a row after submitting your number multiple times, you may have to take your problem to Uber.
    • The Uber app's "My Trips" section of the user menu will let you choose a variety of options for feedback, including "I lost an item".

Tips

  • In a legal pinch, you can use the "Lost Items" form to locate a driver who bore witness to an emergency (e.g., an accident or a robbery).

Warnings

  • Refrain from giving out your actual number to drivers.
