Find an Item Lost in an Uber Car

If you lost an item while riding in an Uber, you have a couple of options for getting it back: you can contact your driver directly (through either the Uber app or Uber's lost item webpage), or you can submit an appeal with your item's details. Please note that there is no way to guarantee that you'll get your item(s) back.

Steps

Using the Uber App

  1. Open the Uber app. If you aren't already logged in, enter your phone number and password (or Facebook information) to do so.
  2. Tap . This should be in the top left corner of your screen.
  3. Tap Your Trips.
  4. Tap a trip. This should be the trip on which you believe you lost your item(s).
  5. Tap "I lost an item".
  6. Tap Contact my driver about a lost item. This option allows you to enter your phone number to call your driver directly. Neither your phone number nor the driver's will be displayed.
  7. Tap Submit. This should call your driver. If you don't reach them the first time you call, stay calm and try several more times throughout the course of the day.
  8. Return to the "I lost an item" menu. If your driver doesn't get back to you within 24 hours, you should submit a form to Uber.
  9. Tap I couldn't reach my driver about a lost item. Doing so allows you to submit an item description and a claim.
  10. Fill out your pertinent form. If you're waiting to hear back about a lost item, you may have to wait a few days.

Using Uber's Lost Item Page

  1. Open Uber's Lost Item webpage. If you aren't already logged into Uber's website, you'll need to click Log In in the top right corner of your screen, then enter your email address and password.
  2. Select a trip. This should be the trip on which you believe you lost your item(s); you can do this from the drop-down menu beneath the "Select a trip" text.
  3. Type in your phone number. You'll need to do this in the field below the "Select a trip" section.
  4. Click Submit.
  5. Wait for a response. Clicking Submit will call your selected driver; if they don't pick up, try calling them an hour or two later.
  6. Consider submitting an appeal. If you don't hear back from your driver for several days in a row after submitting your number multiple times, you may have to take your problem to Uber.
    • The Uber app's "My Trips" section of the user menu will let you choose a variety of options for feedback, including "I lost an item".

Tips

  • Uber will cover the cost of standard ground shipping.
  • If you don't attempt to retrieve your item(s) within 45 days, Uber will donate it/them to charity.

Warnings

  • While following these processes will increase the odds of getting your stuff back, there is no way to guarantee that your item(s) will be returned to you.
