Steps
Buy Frozen Shrimp
- Purchase a bag of frozen shrimp at your local supermarket. Plan on serving at least 1/2 lb. per adult.
- Choose individually flash frozen shrimp. Do not choose re-frozen shrimp, because you will not be able to guarantee its freshness.
- For this frozen shrimp recipe, do not choose pre-cooked shrimp.
Prepare Frozen Shrimp
- Remove shrimp from the freezer.
- Separate 2 to 3 lbs. (0.9 to 2.3kg) of shrimp. Pour the shrimp into a colander.
- Rinse the shrimp under cold water. Try to dislodge any large chunks of ice.
- Let them sit in the colander until they separate.
- Take out a large baking sheet. Choose a baking sheet with a deep lip around the perimeter.
- Spread the shrimp in 1 layer on the baking sheet. Set the sheet aside.
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
Prepare Butter Sauce
- Plug in a food processor.
- Add 2 sticks, or 1 cup (226g), of refrigerated butter.
- Peel 4 cloves of garlic. Add them to the food processor.
- Juice 1 whole lemon. Add the juice to the mixture.
- Measure 1 tsp. (6g) of salt. Dump it in the food processor.
- Wash and add 1/4 cup (1.6g) of fresh parsley. You do not need to mince the parsley or any of the ingredients ahead of time.
- Finish with 1/2 tsp. (0.9g) of red pepper flakes.
- Pulse the butter mixture until it is well-combined. It should be in uniform clumps.
- Remove the butter mixture from the food processor. Sprinkle it over the shrimp. The cold clumps should stick to the top of the frozen shrimp.
Bake Frozen Shrimp
- Insert your baking sheet into the oven.
- Allow it to cook for 20 to 30 minutes, depending upon how much shrimp you are cooking.
- Check the shrimp near the end of the time. They should be opaque, with bright pink shells.
- Scoop the shrimp into a large bowl. Pour the extra butter on the sheet into the bowl. Serve immediately with fresh bread, rice or pasta.
Tips
- Adjust the ingredients in this recipe to your liking. Try fresh ginger and dry white wine instead of parsley for an Asian flavor.
Warnings
- Beware that failure to cook shrimp thoroughly may put you at risk for food borne illness. Most recipes will encourage you to defrost the shrimp overnight in the refrigerator.
