Copy Save Files to Another Wii

Ever want to show your friend how far you got in a game? Ever needed to copy their progress? This guide will teach you how to copy save files from one Wii to another.

Steps

  1. Turn on the Wii with the save files that you want to copy.
  2. Insert an SD card in the slot in the front of the console.
  3. Click on "Options>Data Management>Save Data>Wii"
  4. Look at the top of the screen and make sure you are in the "Wii" tab.
  5. Find the icon of the game that you want to copy.
  6. Click on it and select "Copy"
  7. This should copy the files to your SD Card.
  8. Now go to the other Wii (where you want the save files at).
  9. Insert the SD card into the slot in the Wii.
  10. Go to "Options > Data Management > Wii"
  11. Make sure you go to the "SD Card" tab.
  12. Find the icon of the game that you want to copy.
  13. Click on it and select "Copy".
  14. The file should be saved. Go to the Wii menu and play on the copied Wii file.

Tips

  • This how-to only transfers save files. You will still need the game in order to play it.
  • If the game has never been played on the target Wii, you must load the game first (no need to play), return to the home screen then copy the game data file from the SD card to Wii memory. The Wii will now recognize the copied data file.
  • Only one save per game may be on a Wii or SD card. Make sure you don't delete your friend's saves!
  • Most SD cards should work for this. If you are having trouble with a certain type, please refer to the user manual, received with all Wii consoles.

Warnings

  • Don't turn off the power to the console or remove the SD card while copying. It may corrupt the file or SD card.
  • Most of the games' data can be copied, but there are other games which data cannot be copied.

    • One without the save data
