Create a Spicy, Sweet and Sour Sauce

Some people know recipes for super-spicy sauces and some people know recipes for sweet and sour sauces, but when you combine the two they usually taste horrible. For a change, here is a recipe that is combines these two sauces and it tastes good, too.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup (60 ml.) ketchup
  • 4 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml.) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml.) water
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • additional spices by taste

Steps

  1. Mix ketchup, soy sauce, jalapeƱo pepper, black pepper, lemon juice, and salt(to taste) in a pot, and heat on stove.
  2. Mix cornstarch and water in a small container, dissolving cornstarch completely.
  3. When the mixture in the pot begins to boil, re-stir the cornstarch, and add to pot slowly, stirring continuously.
  4. Remove from heat when the contents of the pot are thickened, and stir in the honey.
  5. Add more salt and other spices to taste.
  6. When you get the taste you like, put it in a squeeze bottle and pour it on chicken or anything else.
  7. Serve.

Tips

  • Optional spices include cayenne or red pepper, garlic powder, cumin, turmeric, and others.
  • Keep refrigerated, and stir before using.
  • You can use more or less of either the lemon juice (sour) or honey and/or sugar (sweet) to taste.
  • Add some pineapple juice for a little different flavor.
