Make Seafood Sauce

Seafood sauce adds a tangy zip to shrimp, but other fish taste better with a less tangy sauce. Tartar sauce is usually served with most fried fish, and is equally easy to make at home.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 5-10 tsp of horseradish
  • Tabasco Sauce or cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Garnish (optional)
  • Mayonnaise
  • Sweet Pickle Relish

Steps

Basic Cocktail Sauce

  1. Combine {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} ketchup, 4 tablespoons horseradish, and 4 tablespoons lemon juice in a medium-sized bowl. Stir vigorously.
  2. Add celery salt and Tabasco sauce to taste.
  3. Refrigerate for one hour to chill and then serve. Optionally, add lemon wedges to the dish so guests can squeeze in extra flavor.

Creole Cocktail Sauce

  1. Combine juice squeezed from half a lemon and 1 cup of tomato juice in a medium-sized bowl. Stir.
  2. Finely chop half a cup of celery and mix into the bowl.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of pepper sauce, and {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of horseradish.
  4. Stir all ingredients well and serve with shrimp.

Basic Tartar Sauce

Recipe based on information from "Help With Cooking" [3]

  1. Combine 16 oz of mayonnaise, and {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} each of: chopped gherkins, chopped capers, lemon juice, chopped fresh chives, and chopped fresh parsley into a medium-to-large mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly with a flat spatula.
  2. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Cover the bowl with saran wrap and refrigerate for an hour to chill. Serve with shrimp, fried calamari, or other seafood of your choice.
  4. Finished.



Tips

  • Present the cocktail sauce in the center of a shrimp ring or on a dish with alternating shrimp and crab strips.
  • Prepare just enough cocktail sauce for one time use, mix ketchup,red horseradish, salt, pepper, and fresh lemon juice to taste. Add spice as desired.
  • Sauce be placed in a clean jar and stored in the fridge for up to a month.
