Create an Auto Repair Log

Our car of today becomes more complicated with each new model, and the monitoring of life cycle for each component can be critical in order to minimize downtime during long trips. Each manufacturer may specify a period when a component require replacement, but more commonly, its life is usually extended, requiring repair when it breaks down unexpectedly. Providing an updated log should minimize this unscheduled breakdown.

Steps

  1. List down all the recent repairs done on your car, provided with details such as date, length of repair time, component replaced, mechanic who did the repair, any collateral work done, things disturbed by this repair and others.
  2. Provided with the car manual provided by the maker, compare the above list, checking which item failed, either earlier or later than scheduled replacement period specified by the manufacturer.
  3. Based from the above, provided you follow prescribed standard operation and maintenance procedure, you can assess operational life cycle of several items, like fan belts, water pumps, clutch disks, and others.
  4. After this, write down regularly all repair details that follow, ensuring that all information required are complete.
