Crochet a Bracelet With Your Fingers

The construction of this bracelet uses only fingers to arrive at a loose chain stitch. It's a great way to use up short scraps of yarn and create a simple accessory. The pattern is essentially finger weaving on one finger.

Steps

  1. Choose what you would like to use for this project. You can use scraps of yarn or buy a new skein of yarn and make bracelets for your friends. These photos use a basic yarn for clarity and contrast, but a fancy or decorative yarn would make it fun
  2. Make a Slip Knot. Make a loop in the yarn. Then pull the shorter end of the yarn through to form a loop. Tighten the knot, but not the loop
  3. Place the loop over your finger and pull the end of the yarn until the loop is secure but not overly tight. It will help to put the knot to the side or back
  4. Wrap the long end of yarn once around your finger.
  5. With the hand the loop isn't on, pull the first loop (the slip knot) over the second loop and off your finger
  6. Continue making one new loop and lifting the lower loop over your finger as many times as necessary for the bracelet to fit around your wrist
  7. Check the length of your bracelet. You may need to tug on the free end to see how long it really is.
  8. Cut the yarn and pull it through the last loop. Be sure to leave a few inches of yarn on the end.
  9. Pull on both ends to tighten the last stitch around the free end.
  10. Tie the ends together in a double knot or a bow while it's on your wrist.
  11. Finished.

Tips

  • Instead of tying a knot, you can use other fasteners, such as a hook and eye, found at craft stores. This would allow the bracelet to be taken on and off without having to untie a knot.
  • Try to perform each stitch the same way for a consistent stitch size, direction, and appearance along the length of the bracelet.
  • Pulling on the loose end now and then will extend the chain.
  • This is basically crocheting a single line with your fingers.

Warnings

  • If you start to get frustrated take breaks often
