Deep Fry Camembert
Fried Camembert is a gourmet favourite with a high price tag. You don't need to go to a stuffy restaurant to taste its scrumptiousness - make fried camembert at a fraction of the cost!
Ingredients
- 1 Camembert cheese (usually in circular shape)
- 250ml/8.5 fl oz (give or take) sunflower oil
- Breadcrumbs
- 2 large eggs
Steps
- Pour the breadcrumbs into a bowl.
- Break the eggs into a bowl. Mix well.
- Cut the Camembert into wedges.
- Dip the Camembert wedges into the egg mixture. Turn the wedge around in order to coat well.
- Dip the egg-covered Camembert wedges into breadcrumb mixture. Coat the wedges using a fork to hold each piece into the breadcrumbs.
- Repeat until all of the Camembert wedges are coated.
- Pour oil into the small saucepan. There should be enough to cover the Camembert wedges.
- Heat the oil until it becomes very hot.
- Place a few wedges onto a flat metal ladle (with drainage holes). Lower the wedges into the oil.
- Allow to fry for about 20-30 seconds.
- Remove and place on kitchen toweling.
- Serve hot. If wished, serve with a favorite condiment for dipping.
Tips
- It is good to make a double layer of the breadcrumbs & eggs. Otherwise cheese inside might melt and spill into the pan.To do this repeat steps 4 & 5 for each piece twice.
- Before you fry them let them sit at room temperature for 20 to 30 minutes.
- Using flour as the base for the coating can help. Just dip the cheese in flour before applying eggs for the first time.
- For added flavor, use breadcrumbs with mixed herbs crushed into them.
Warnings
- Whenever working with hot oil, take extreme care and keep children and pets well away. Never leave hot oil unattended.
- Never fill the pan more than halfway with oil.
