Delete Walls in Sims 2

If you want to rework your Sims' floor plan in Sims 2, you may need to delete a few walls. The process is easy and intuitive, once you get started. First, you'll need to get into build mode – then, you can use the hammer tool or the "Walls" category to delete any section of wall that you don't need.

Steps

  1. Go into build mode. You will need to enter build mode to delete walls. In the bottom-left corner, look for a big circle with a bunch of smaller circles around it. These are the action options.
    • The first small circle should have the outline of two people standing. Skip it and go clockwise (roll to the right).
    • The second circle should be a chair with a floor lamp. Skip that one, too and continue going clockwise.
    • The third circle that you come across should show a paint roller and a saw. Click this option to enter build mode.

Using the Hammer Tool (on a PC)

  1. Find the hammer tool. Once you enter build mode, look for a small, square menu in the space where your sim's age and the Play/Pause/FF options were. There will be six smaller squares and one rectangle inside of this menu. Find the square with the hammer, and click it.
    • If you put your mouse on the square with the hand (which is at the top left of this menu), go down one square, and then one square to the right to find the hammer tool. It should be above the rectangle on the right in the second row.
  2. Click the wall(s) you want to delete. Click and drag to delete long sections of wall. Be careful and precise, but bear in mind that you can always undo your mistakes.
  3. Undo mistakes. If you click the wrong wall, you can always undo. Move your mouse back to the hammer box, but don't click it. Move your mouse straight down, past the rectangle, until you reach the square with the arrow pointing to the right (sort of like this "->"). Then move your mouse one square to the left so that it's on the arrow pointing to the left ("<-" like that). Click the left pointing arrow to undo what you did. Click the arrow pointing right to redo it, in case you clicked undo one too many times.
  4. Exit build mode and continue playing. To exit build mode, find the box near the left side of the screen that shows the paint roller and the saw (the one you clicked to enter build mode). Move your mouse up - past the square with the chair and lamp - until you reach the square with the little buildings, which will be the first one in the little menu. Clicking this will take you back to game mode so you can continue playing.

Using the "Walls" Category (on a PC)

  1. Select the "Walls" category. While in build mode, find and select the "Walls" category. It should be clearly marked with a stylized wall-like icon.
  2. Choose the correct wall type. Once you are within the wall category, select the wall type of your choice. Depending on the expansion packs you have, there may be quite a few options.
  3. Hover your mouse over the wall you want to delete. Be careful not to delete walls that you need – they will cost money to fix!
  4. Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard. This will activate the wall-deletion function. When you hold Ctrl, you should be able to right-click and drag to remove sections of wall.
  5. Right-click and drag to remove wall sections. While holding down the Ctrl key, right click and drag your mouse in the direction of the wall(s) that you want to delete. Do not release the clicker. The walls should disappear where you drag your cursor. When you're done deleting walls, release the Ctrl key and the right-mouse button.

Removing Walls on Playstation 2

  1. Select "Walls and Fences". Scroll over to the tab for the Build mode part of the catalog. Hit the X button to select the Walls and Fences section.
  2. Now hit the Square button. This opens the removal wall and fencing tool.
  3. Place the wall tool where you need it. Now that you have the wall tool available, move it to one of the corners of the wall or the spot you wish to remove.
  4. Stretch the wall tool to cover the entire section you want to delete. First, press the X button. Then, stretch this wall tool out to cover the area you wish to remove by using your Left Analog stick till you have sufficiently covered the amount you want to remove.
    • Notice that it has all X's on it and that it is green. This means you have selected to remove a wall or a fence and it is allowing you to do so].
  5. Delete the wall. Press the X button again to remove the wall section. Just hit the Triangle button to exit.

Tips

  • You can also delete a fence this way.

Warnings

  • Be careful using the hammer tool. It can delete more than just the wall.
