A telephone book delivery job is a job many people do to help supplement income throughout the year. Most of these jobs require applicants to meet minimum requirements. Other requirements include having a clean driving record, having the proper vehicle insurance, as well as up to date license plates, tags and a valid Social Security card. Delivering telephone books offers workers a flexible schedule and the opportunity to be outside in the fresh air. However, there are also some downsides to delivering telephone books. You are responsible for having reliable transportation, paying for your own gas, and sometimes being outside in unfavorable weather conditions.

  1. Search the Internet and newspaper for phone book delivery jobs in your area. Many businesses conduct hiring throughout the year.
  2. Apply for as many phone book delivery jobs that are available in your area. Make sure to list how many years you have been driving. You should also list all relevant work experience, such as whether you have worked as a delivery driver before. Also, make a note on the application stating your familiarity of the area in which you will be working.
  3. Wait a few weeks for a response. After this amount of time has passed and you haven't heard anything, you can call and speak with someone in the human resources department to check on your application. You can also send the human resources department an email, to let them know you are still interested in the position and would like to know how the application process was coming along.
  4. Make sure you perform regular maintenance on your car to ensure it is in proper working condition. Change the oil, align the tires, check the water level, the headlights, taillights, the tire threads and tire pressure.
  5. Print out maps or buy a book with maps of the area where you will be working. This will help you find the fastest way to get to your route. It will also help you when you get lost.
  6. Purchase a lightweight, medium sized metal cart to help you deliver telephone books. Make sure to get one with wheels on it. This will allow you deliver telephone books with ease, since you won't have to carry each telephone book door to door.
  7. Bring plenty of water with you on your route. This is important, especially on hot days. Since you will be walking most of the time, you can become parched quite easy. Water helps to keep you hydrated.

  9. Work at a steady pace. Since most phone book delivery jobs pay by the lb. (kg) or by the book, you must work at a swift pace to make a decent hourly wage.

Tips

  • To keep your energy level up and to replenish the body with valuable electrolytes during your route, bring along some Gatorade or other power drink, to give you energy and prevent muscles cramps.
