Disassemble Break Pads

Cars require a lot of maintenance, they need constant changes to compensate for the wear and tear that we use them for everyday. Thus, learning about the parts that keep us safe in our cars such as maintaining the wellness of your brakes is a big advantage. To learn how to change or clean brake pads, rotors, and calipers, you must learn how to properly disassemble multiple parts of a car.

Steps

  1. Removing Lug nuts Use a lug wrench to remove the lug nuts. Be sure to remove the lug nuts off one by one diagonally from one another! Be sure not to loose the lug nuts when removing them from your tires
  2. Using a Mechanical Jack Carefully place the Jack under the car. Make sure you place the head of the jack on a strong spot under the car i.e. a base and not a pipe. Then pump to your desired height you want the car lifted
  3. Pull out the Tire Consider that the tire is very heavy depending on the rim size. Carefully lift the tire then pull with both hands and the tire should come off completely.
  4. 'Internals From here you will see the caliper, rotor and parts of the axels (show images)
  5. Loosen the caliper to loosen the caliper, depending on how rusty it is the caliper will need applied pressure using a C-clamp and wrench
  6. Be prepared for oil leakage Oil (brake fluid) may leak from tubes after removing the caliper so have a towel or bucket ready under the axel.
  7. Remove brake pads within the caliper In the caliper you will see the the brake pads on each inner side of the caliper and one piston.
  8. Clean all parts to your liking once all parts are disassembeled by each part, inspect every item and look for rust.
