Do a Bow and Arrow in Cheerleading

When you are up in the air doing a stunt in cheerleading, you might be asked to do a bow and arrow. Here is a six step guide on wikiHow to do a bow and arrow in cheerleading.

Steps

  1. Stretch before trying this. If you don't, you can get hurt and/or pull something.
  2. Keep the leg you're not going up on straight. This means locking your knee and making sure you aren't wobbling before even attempting to pull anything.
  3. Lift your other leg up to a heel stretch.
  4. Keep your leg to the side.
  5. Bring your other hand. Use the hand you're not holding it with, and reach over your head in the shape of a bow and grab your foot.
  6. Point your other arm. Use the arm that you would usually hold your heel stretch with, and move it sideways in front of your outstretched leg (the same way your leg is).

Tips

  • Try to do the splits before this because it might help with this move.
  • Put your leg (the one you use to do your heel stretch) on a wall and focus on keeping both legs straight while you lean towards the wall.
  • Get your balance when pulling your leg up to start or you will not be comfortable in the position. You might not even be able to accomplish the position if you are not balanced.
  • Practice a few times each day do you get comfortable with it and you'll have it down perfectly. You should be able to have it in about 5-7 days or less.
  • You should to practice your heel stretch first so you don't pull anything.
  • Practice. It may hurt the first couple of times but you will get it eventually.
  • You should never pull to the side. Pull straight in front.
  • Be extremely careful. Try not to pull a joint or a muscle
  • Wear comfortable clothes.
  • Don't give up.
  • Try it on the ground first. It also helps if you try to do it laying on the ground first it will let you know if you can get your leg up high enough.
  • Most people can do this if they try to practice.
  • Once you get it you can do a lot more so keep trying.
  • You have to be very flexible in order to do this complicated move.
  • This is an advanced cheerleading move. Do not try unless you have a background with cheerleading
  • The main muscle group that is worked in the bow and arrow is the hamstring group - stretch your hamstrings well.

Warnings

  • If you don't stretch, you can get hurt! So stretch A LOT! before doing this!!
  • Try this on the floor. Stretch a lot and then try it. It will take about a week.
  • Since this is an advanced move, you usually won't be able to manage doing this until lots of practice
  • It's best to have a solid heel stretch before trying the bow and arrow.
  • Make sure that you have a coach watching you until he/she says you can do it on your own without his/her supervision.
