Do a Three Step (Gymnastics)

A back handspring is an acrobatic maneuver that combines the pike and the front somersault in order to maneuver around the stage with great amounts of grace and elegance. This primarily illustrative article will teach you how to perform such a maneuver.

Steps

  1. Put your hands straight above your head.
  2. Keep your legs bent before you actually somersault.
  3. Jump up and push off really hard using your leg muscles to push. As you push off, about half-way you want to lift up your hands and grab your knees.
  4. Keep your legs bent before you actually somersault.
  5. Try to land on your feet as you are coming down. Or do a cannon ball up to your feet.
  6. Try to land with arms first! Be very careful not to hit your head.

Tips

  • Try practicing on an old mattress on top of another mattress, until you are always landing on your feet.
  • Split the whole move into parts first, like practicing a handstand so you reduce to risk of bumping your head.

Warnings

  • This is a dangerous move! You may hurt your head if you do not execute it correctly.
  • Do not try unless a responsible adult or gymnastic teacher is around to catch you if you fall or move your hand at wrong time.
