Do an Around the World in Soccer
Do you like soccer? If so, you may like to try to learn some new soccer tricks. It takes a lot of practice, but with the help of this article, you should be able to learn it a bit faster. Just a little something to help you to do that cool trick called Around The World.
Steps
- Start by exercising a lot, try going to a gym at least 3 hours a week as soccer players need to have good control over their muscles.
- Start with the ball on the ground, put your dominant foot on top of the ball and roll it back so that the ball is balanced on top of your foot.
- To get the feel for the ball bounce it on your foot for about 50 times (not high).
- Try to balance the ball on your dominant foot. Once you've succeeded, try to hold the ball for as long as possible (at least 30 sec or so).
- Let the ball slip a little bit to the right (if your dominant foot is your right)
- Lift your foot and take it around the top of the ball on the inside, trying not to touch it, and then bring it around the outside. Don't worry about catching the ball, that's just practice.
- Bounce the ball on a hard surface (let it bounce a couple of times) and try to tap it with the right half of your foot.
- Quickly take your foot around the top of the ball on the outside trying not to touch it, and then bring it around the inside and tap the ball to gain back control and start juggling.
- Do this a few times until you can try it without tapping (at the beginning or end). Once you get the hang of it, you can start by tapping the ball a couple of times with your foot and try "around the world" then keep juggling the ball.
Tips
- Being skilled at regular juggling and having good ball control can be immensely helpful.
- Practice in dry conditions, as wet ground is not easy to balance on on one foot.
- Don't get frustrated if you can't do it at first, you'll eventually be able to do it in a couple of months or so.
- Don't let the ball get too high or it'll hit your knee. One way of avoiding that is having your leg make a 250 degree angle=_/ (that little "drawing" represents your leg from your knee down), your thigh should be parallel to your foot.
- Practice on a hard/firm surface.
- Don't forget to use shorts for improved mobility.
- Try using turfs or at least indoor soccer footwear.
- You should first master a few other tricks before trying this one because it takes ages to learn.
- Adidas and Nike balls are very good.
- If you want you can learn it by first doing it from a 'foot stall' see https://www.wikihow.com/Balance-a-Soccer-Ball-on-Your-Foot (i.e. stalling the ball on your foot) and then when you learn that the transition to learning it from juggling will be easier.
Warnings
- Don't expect to get it right first time.
