Do the Cotton Eyed Joe Dance
The Cotton Eyed Joe is a country dance made popular in 2002. The dance is similar to line dancing but has relatively easy steps that are repeated over and over again. Here are the steps to learn the cotton eyed Joe dance.
Steps
- Stick out your right foot and tap the ground with the bottom of the heel twice.
- Put your right foot behind you and tap the ground with your toe twice.
- Put your right foot forward and tap the ground once with the bottom of the heel.
- Put your right foot back and tap the ground once with the toe of the right foot
- Repeat step 3.
- Tap the ground to the side of you with your right foot once.
- Raise your right foot up to the left thigh behind you and touch the foot with the left hand.
- Return to side position.
- Raise your right foot up to the left thigh in front of you and touch the foot with the left hand.
- Return foot to normal position.
- Move 3 steps to the right and then clap the hands.
- Move 3 steps to the left and then clap the hands.
- Move 3 steps back and then clap the hands.
- Move 3 steps forward and then clap the hands.
- Turn around in a circle for 6 beats, then repeat step 4 and continue with the next step after this one.
- Repeat steps above until the end of the song.
Tips
- Try it with friends so that you can learn it together. If they already know it, have them help you.
- Bounce with beat
- There are other versions of this dance, when you mastered this one try the others!
- Listen to the song before hand so that you know the tempo of the song.
- Don't go too fast, you'll tire out.
- Don't try to do it through the whole song, maybe just when the chorus comes. The rest of the time you can just do your country dances, or other dances that are cool.
