Draw Mouths

Learn to draw mouths by following the steps in this article.

Steps

Closed Smiling Mouth

  1. Draw a simple horizontal line sketch for the middle of the lips. Make the two line edges sketched upwards to show the smiling expression.
  2. Outline sketch the upper and lower lip with two arches.
  3. Draw the actual lines of the upper and lower lip.
  4. Add the short arched lines that show the volume of the lips and erase the unnecessary lines.
  5. Fill in a flesh colored or skin toned background.
  6. Fill in the basic colors on the mouth. This will look a little flat without the shading and highlighting. But thanks to the arched lines, the volume is already showing.
  7. Add the highlights and shadows on the lips.
  8. Finish the draft by adding the highlights and shadows on the background which forms the part of the face below the nose down to the chin.

Biting Lip

  1. Start with an outline sketch on the upper lip. The line here looks a bit distorted compared to the previous sample.
  2. Draw the outline sketches for the teeth biting the lower lip. Make the lips look luscious and pleasing. Regardless of the colors and shadowing, the volume of the lower lips is already showing.
  3. Add the upper lip.
  4. Draw the actual lines on the lips.
  5. Fill in the basic colors.
  6. Add the highlights and shadows.

Open Smiling Mouth

  1. Draw a slanted oval for the upper lip of the mouth.
  2. Draw a “U” touching the extreme edge of the oval making a bowl.
  3. Draw a “Y” in the middle of the oval touching the top and bottom edge.
  4. Draw an inner “U” to the previously drawn U to make the lower lips .
  5. Draw another curve line to the inner “U”.
  6. Make vertical lines for the teeth.
  7. Draw curves to make out the teeth from the gums.
  8. Make bold lines to bring out both the upper and lower lips.
  9. Similarly do the same treatment for the teeth.
  10. Erase all unnecessary lines and draw every possible detail.
  11. Color and shade the mouth.

Rock n' Roll

  1. Draw a tapered hexagon.
  2. Draw two circles making each center on the top angles of the hexagon.
  3. Draw another circle just below on the middle of the two circles
  4. Draw 3 more circles making its center on the angles of the hexagon.
  5. Draw an oval on the left bottom angle, 3/4 off from the center.
  6. Draw some boxes to create the teeth.
  7. Erase the hexagon.
  8. Join lines in the circle to form the mouth.
  9. Erase some more lines to make out the tongue.
  10. Create dark lines to make out a mouth with a sticking tongue.
  11. Erase the guide lines.
  12. Color the mouth.
