Draw SpongeBob SquarePants

Who is not familiar with the world’s most famous sponge? He is also the only sponge who wears clothes along with his funny and adorable quotes. He’s none other than Spongebob Squarepants! Enjoy!

Steps

Method One: Front View SpongeBob

Start a square outline sketch.
  1. Draw two lines at the bottom part on the box for the clothes’ outline.
  2. Draw one horizontal line and three vertical lines for the outline of the face. The horizontal line is for the outline of the nose. The vertical lines are the outlines for the eyes, nose and mouth.
  3. Start drawing the actual lines of the head. This is the actual line of the head so make sure that you emphasize the sponge effect on his head. Draw series of connected curved lines that wholly forms a shape of a square.
  4. Draw the actual lines for his body.
  5. Draw the actual lines for the clothes. Spongebob’s clothes are normally uniformed. He wears a white polo shirt with a blue necktie, brown pants, a pair of white socks with two stripes of blue and red on it and, lastly, a pair of black leather shoes.
  6. Draw the actual lines for the sleeves and the pants. Well, technically, the pants look like a pair of shorts, however, since he is Mr. Squarepants, I guess we can go ahead and call them pants.
  7. Draw the actual lines for the arms and feet. Including the socks and the shoes.
  8. Sketch the outlines for the hands. Cartoons usually have four fingers, basically, to draw them faster. Draw a circle at the middle as the outline sketch of the palm, and then add four oblongs for the outlines of the fingers.
  9. Draw the actual lines of the fingers.
  10. Sketch the outlines of the eyes.
  11. Add the outline sketch of the nose.
  12. Continue the outline sketch of the mouth.
  13. Add the outline sketches for the eyelashes.
  14. Complete the facial feature outlines by adding the two teeth and a short curved line for the lower lip outline.
  15. Draw the actual lines for the face.
  16. Erase the outline sketches.
  17. Fill in the basic colors.
  18. Add the light and shadows.
  19. Add the background.

Method Two: Spongebob in Character

  1. Start the outline sketch with a square warped with a slanted curved shape.
  2. Draw a warped trapezoid shape conforming to the shape of the square.
  3. Add the outline sketches for the body.
  4. Continue with the facial outline sketches.
  5. Draw the actual lines of the head, body and clothes.
  6. Add the actual lines of the hands and feet.
  7. Draw the actual lines of the face.
  8. Erase the outline sketches.
  9. Color the draft.
  10. Add the background.

Method Three: Original Spongebob

  1. Draw a rectangle box.
  2. Draw a vertical line down the center and two horizontal lines.
  3. Now draw arms,legs,feet and hands.
  4. Draw eye sockets.
  5. Draw a nose and a mouth.
  6. Draw fingers and two trapezoids.
  7. Draw tie with pants.
  8. Draw two trapezoids under pants and detail shoes.
  9. Now we are half way!!!
  10. Detail mouth and face.
  11. Detail the eyes.
  12. Detail first arm.
  13. Detail body.
  14. Detail the pants.
  15. Detail the other arm.
  16. Detail the legs.
  17. Erase the lines.
  18. Clean it up.
  19. And finally color then done!



Tips

  • Draw lightly in pencil so that you can easily rub out mistakes.
  • Be patient if your first drawing is less than perfect. Think of your first drawing as practice.
  • Make sure not to make his shoes too big!
  • Color the spots green and the rest of his skin yellow if you didn't know.
  • Color in SpongeBob if you like!
