Draw a Room

Doing a design project for Home Economics, or simply want to sketch out ideas for your dream room? By following these easy steps, you can learn to do so!

Steps

  1. Draw a cube. The lines will represent the floor and walls, although the one facing you won't be included in the final drawing.
  2. Erase the top lines and the one obstructing our view of the room, the line in the middle. Three planes remain--the one at the bottom will be the floor and the ones at the sides will be the walls.
  3. Sketch in a window. Remember: from this point, you will not be drawing flat images and features like this should be drawn in perspective.
  4. Draw in a bed. The illustration has it in the corner, but yours can be wherever you decide to place it.
  5. Add in cabinets/a bookshelf. Don't forget to add volume to the objects as you place them!
  6. Add details if you want. You can add more cabinets, a bathroom, or anything else you want! You can even copy your current room.
  7. Outline and color in your room! Try to use a wide variety of bold colors, so your drawing looks as realistic as possible.

Tips

  • Rooms are characteristic of the people in them, so think about who lives in your room before you begin drawing. Is the inhabitant of your room outgoing or shy? Energetic or inactive? Clean or messy? Use all these qualities to help you structure the look of the room.
  • Draw lightly in pencil so that you can easily rub out mistakes.
