A Closed Book
- Draw a rectangle tilted to the right. Draw straight lines from the vertices of the rectangle. Each vertical line must be of the same length.
- Draw another rectangle with the tips of those vertical lines as vertices of the second rectangle.
- Draw 4 curves, concave to the right, that connect the upper and lower rectangle through their corners.
- Draw a small rectangle at the center of the upper rectangle. Draw straight lines in the edges to indicate bound pages.
- Refine, then trace with a pen, and erase unnecessary lines.
- Color to your liking!
An Open Book
- Draw a trapezoid and draw a vertical line at the middle that connects the two bases.
- Draw inner border lines to the three sides of the trapezoid. Draw diagonal lines from the bottom vertices to the upper midpoint.
- Draw a square from extending the lines from the vertices.
- Add the detail of curves to resemble like an open book.
- Draw partial straight lines in the edges to indicate collected pages.
- Trace with a pen and erase unnecessary lines.
- Color to your liking!
Tips
- Draw lightly in pencil so that you can easily rub out mistakes.
- Do not use a dark sketching pencil until after the final step to outline the book.
- Books come in many shapes and sizes, and this is only the most basic way to draw one. Try altering some of the steps to come up with the image you have in your mind, and sketch until you’re satisfied with what’s on your paper. Look at your bookshelf or go to the library for ideas.
- It is recommended to use scratch paper on the first attempt.
