Draw a Volleyball

Volleyballs may look very simple and easy to draw at first, but when you actually grab a pencil and begin drawing, you realize they are a bit difficult to capture on paper. But, never fear, for in this article I will show you how to draw a volleyball step by step.

Steps

Volleyball Icon Design

  1. Start the outline sketch with a perfect circle. Get a protractor, a coin or an old cd to be used as a guide in drawing a perfect circle.
  2. Draw crossed line sketch to show a form of sphere.
  3. Draw four curved lines.
  4. Draw another line curved downwards.
  5. Add three more downward curved lines.
  6. Draw two curved lines towards the right side.
  7. Add a few more curved lines.
  8. Make sure that all the corners are connected to the lines.
  9. Remove the outline sketches and draw the actual perfect circle.
  10. Color the ball with white.
  11. Continue by adding the shadow on the ball.
  12. Add the cast shadow.

Realistic Volleyball (Using crayon as a medium)

  1. Start with the outline sketch for the circle.
  2. Outline sketch the sphere shape of the circle.
  3. Draw four curved outline sketches.
  4. Add three curved outline sketches conforming to the shape of the ball.
  5. Draw two more downward curved outline sketches.
  6. Add a few more outline sketches.
  7. Draw the outline sketch of the ball. This is a realistic volleyball so try to out bulks to show the actual volume of the ball’s surface.
  8. Draw the actual lines. Simply trace the outline sketches that were sketched earlier.
  9. Fill in the basic color. Get your white crayon and start coloring the white areas. When you color using crayons, you have to leave the parts that needed a different color because it is a little bit hard to blend colors with crayons. Crayons are not as soft as pastels.
  10. Add gray on the shadow. On the not colored areas, stroke your gray crayon on a shape that adapts to the shape of the ball and the shadow.
  11. Blend the colors. It is hard to blend two crayon colors but it is still possible. All you have to do is to add a layer of the color that you want to blend. In this case, get the white crayon and add another layer of it with some parts of the gray.
  12. Finish the draft with the cast shadow.

A Cartoon Volleyball

  1. Begin by drawing a circle. If you want, you can use a coin, or other round object, to trace and make the circle totally perfect.
  2. Draw a dot in the center of the circle. This will be used as a starting point to draw the other lines on the volleyball.
  3. Draw three lines on the volleyball, starting from the dot, and extending outwards to the edge of the circle. The lines should all be slightly curved in the same direction. The circle you drew should now be split into three sections.
  4. Draw two lines within each section. Both of the lines should be parallel matching the curvature of the other lines that you have already drawn.
  5. Add details, if you want to. For example, you could write "Mikasa","Molten" ,"Tachikara" , "Wilson" , or "Baden" on the volleyball. You can even add any color you would like.

Tips

  • If you want to you can add things like the name of the volleyball or even a name of your own. You can also write a short message.
