Enable Cookies in Safari

Cookies are small files that Safari saves to the memory of your computer or smartphone to make your future Web browsing experience more personal and convenient. Cookies often contain your personal information and preferences such as usernames, passwords, addresses, and more. Follow these steps to enable cookies in Safari on your computer or Apple device.

Steps

Enabling Cookies in Safari 5.1 and Higher

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Click on "Safari" in the Menu bar.
  3. Select "Preferences."[1]
  4. Click on "Privacy" from the Preferences window.
  5. Select "Never" within the section labeled "Block cookies." Select "From third parties and advertisers" to prevent these types of parties from having access to your personal data and preferences.
  6. Click on the close button "x". This will save your new Safari cookies settings.

Enabling Cookies in Safari 5.0

  1. Launch Safari.
  2. Select "Safari" from the Menu bar.
  3. Select "Preferences."
  4. Click on "Security" from the Preferences toolbar.
  5. Select "Always" next to the section labeled "Accept cookies." Select "Only from sites I visit" if you do not want third-parties and advertisers to have access to your personal data and preferences.
  6. Click on "Close" to save your new Safari cookies settings.

Enabling Cookies in Safari 4.0

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Click on the "Cog" icon. You can find it on the top right of the screen's toolbar.[2]
  3. Select "Preferences."
  4. Select the Security tab. You can find it second from the top right.
  5. Select "Allow" or "Only from sites I visit." "Allow" will enable cookies in all cases and the second option will only do it for the sites you visit.
  6. Close the dialog by clicking on the "x". You can find it on the top right of the box. You're all done.

Enabling Cookies on the iPhone, iPad, or iPad Touch

  1. Tap on "Settings" from your Apple device's Home screen. It will look like an icon of two little gray gears.
  2. Tap on "Safari." You may have to scroll down a bit to find this option.
  3. Tap on "Accept cookies." This will open up a new screen that will give you three options: Never, From Visited, or Always. You can tap on "From visited" to limit cookies only to websites you have visited, but this will be a modified version of the process.
  4. Select "Always." You're all done.

  • Keep your cookies blocked from third-parties and advertisers to avoid being shown advertisements that reflect your location and personal interests during various Web sessions.
  • Enabling cookies can prevent you from having to enter the same information repeatedly on websites you frequently visit. Cookies can save your mailing and billing information, usernames, passwords, and more.

Warnings

  • Do not enable cookies on computers in public locations, such as library computers. If you enable cookies on public computers, other users may have access to your private and personal information.
