Pie is food that is baked, has an outer shell made of pastry dough and covers or contains a filling of fruit, meat or chicken, fish, vegetables, cheeses, creams, chocolate, custards, nuts or other sweet or delicious ingredients. Eating a pie, will depend on the type of pie you choose to eat at the moment.[1]

Steps

  1. Have a pie prepared to eat. If you don't, you might be disappointed when you go to eat a pie, and it's not there. So if you don't have a pie, make one or buy one.
  2. Enjoy a pie that has a pastry shell on the bottom and a cover of pastry, filled with either chicken or meat, with carrots and peas in a creamy sauce. Cover the pie with a flaky pie crust and bake until golden brown. This is a one dish meal, both filling, delicious and healthy. This is also known as a Deep Dish Pie, since it is baked in a deep dish so that the gravy and cut up ingredients do not spill over on the plate. Eat this pie with a fork as well as a spoon, one to pierce the chicken, and the other to scoop up the veggies and gravy.
  3. Realize that some pies might only have a bottom crust and sweet fillings that do not need cooking. The bottom crust only has to be baked, and then it is topped by the filling desired. One of the most popular bottom crust only pie, that is consumed as a meal is quiche. This of course is eaten with a fork and if you add a salad on the side, makes a delicious and healthy lunch.[1]
  4. Enjoy bottom-crust-only pies known as tarts or tartlets. Tarts are made in two sizes, large or small, and contain various fresh fruits. This type of pie is eaten with a fork, and is enjoyed as a desert, served with either hot Process Oolong Tea or coffee, and topped with whipped cream if desired.[2]
  5. Make Tofu Cheese Pie. This alternative cheesecake has no cheese, just tofu, juice, berries, and walnuts, pumpkin or spices. This makes a delicious pie, and is eaten with a fork.
  6. Make Apple pie oatmeal and enjoy a filling, delicious and even healthy breakfast that you eat with a spoon. In fact, if you have the ingredients, it will take you longer to read about it than to make it, and you'll use no more dishes than it takes to eat the oatmeal.
  7. Serve ice cream over home made Apple Pie With a sharp paring knife, cut decorative slits in top pastry to allow steam to escape. If you want a crispy top, brush top of pastry with a little milk and sprinkle with some sugar.
  8. Serve the traditional Pumpkin Pie and Apple Pie for the traditional dessert to finish a delicious Make a Thanksgiving Flower Arrangement or Christmas Dinner. Add ice cream and/or whipped cream on top, serve with a hot cup of coffee or tea, and sit back and rejoice in yet another holiday dinner enjoyed with family and friends.
  9. Eat the pie however you want. You shouldn't have to worry about being polite if you really want to enjoy it. You can eat the pastry first, filling first or both at the same time.

Tips

  • If you are trying to lose weight (or just want to eat healthy), a good way to figure out the perfect cake or pie slice is to use your pinkie. Line up your pinkie with the crust. The slice should be no longer then your pinkie.
  • For some fruit pies (such as apple, pear, or peach) a scoop of ice cream makes a great topping.
  • Eat very slowly so as to savor every bite.
  • Rather than microwaving a day (or more) old pie, try reheating it in a toaster oven or under a broiler. That way, you can enjoy fresh-baked taste instead of a soggy, microwave-softened crust.
  • Historians have recorded that the roots of pie can loosely be traced back to the ancient Egyptians. The bakers to the pharaohs incorporated nuts, honey, and fruits in bread dough, a primitive form of pastry.[3]

Warnings

  • Don't leave your pie in the microwave too long when warming it. All you want to do is heat it slightly, not cook it.
  • Never leave your oven on when you are away. Make sure you are at home to watch your pie progress.
  • Be careful, your plate may be hot on the bottom, you might want to leave it in the microwave for a couple of minutes, to let it cool down.
