Enjoy Hiking
Hiking is a great way to appreciate nature. It's also good for your health, and can be done by people of any age and varied ability levels. Here is how to enjoy your hiking trip, whether you're going for long expedition or a 20-minute walk.
Steps
- Assess your ability level. This includes your physical fitness and stamina, any injuries or other health problems, your equipment, and your hiking experience. It is probably wiser to stay back if you have breathing problems or painful injuries. Get the damage healed and wait for some months/weeks before you hike, as your physician suggests.
- Prepare by getting appropriate clothes and some supplies. You'll want to wear loose, breathable clothing (layer for colder weather), and sturdy, well-fitting shoes with a good grip. You will also want to bring along water and some non-perishable snacks (such as granola bars, dried fruit, or mixed nuts), and a small first-aid kit.
- Pick your hiking spot. Choose a route suited to your ability level. Try to find one with good scenery and a few nice stopping points. If you are a beginner at hiking, it is highly recommended that you choose a place for walking in easy reach first.
- Bring a hiking companion, such as a friend or family member. It is necessary since anything can happen on the hike.
- Observe your surroundings closely as you hike. Be sure to pause for special nature moments, no matter how small. Capture a picture of them if you want to keep the memory preserved.
- Hike slowly. This gives you more time to enjoy the hiking experience and take in the scenery.
Tips
- Bring family along for the hike. It's a fun way to spend time together, away from distractions.
