Find Flicker Flame Light Bulbs
The "Flicker Flame" light bulb is a form of specialty lighting which produces a candle-like "flame" effect. The bulbs use two metal plates in an evacuated bulb, filled with the rare-earth gas neon, to create a dancing orange glow. Although these bulbs are appreciated by many lighting enthusiasts, they can be difficult to find.

Steps
- Check your local building supply stores (such as Lowe's or Home Depot, look for a provider of Philips Light bulbs, they manufacture them). These retailers often have a surprisingly wide selection of light bulbs, sometimes including the flicker-flame variety.
- Check local hardware stores. I have found the bulbs at Ace in the past, and they may be available at other hardware retailers as well.
- Check around Christmastime. Some places carry a wider variety of specialty bulbs in their Christmas department.
- If you can't find the bulbs locally, try the internet. Go to Google and enter "flicker flame bulbs." You should have no trouble finding them online.
Tips
- Don't mistake the common "flame-shaped" bulbs for the flicker-flame variety. Many bulbs are shaped like a candle flame, but most of these use ordinary incandescent (tungsten) filaments. To be sure it's the real thing, look for two large metal plates inside the bulb.
Warnings
- For some incomprehensible reason, it seems that not everyone appreciates flicker-flame bulbs as much as we do. Some people consider them "tacky." Don't overdo it, especially if the people close to you are not flicker-flame fans.
