Fix Analog Sticks on Dual Shock 2 Controller for PS2

The Playstation 2 is a great console, but its controller has a problem: the analogue sticks. You can perform a simple test to see if the sticks are repairable. See Step 1 below to find out how.

Steps

  1. While the game is active, push in both sticks (thus pressing R3 and L3)
  2. While sticks are pressed down, wiggle both sticks in a circular motion for about 5 seconds.
  3. Your game should resume as normal. If the character was moving when you were not touching the controller, this should fix the problem. Just repeat steps 1&2 while on title screen (press start).
  4. Check it in your PS2 manual! Every time you start PS2, move analog in a circular motion 1 time, and then your stick will not move itself.

Tips

  • If the character continues to move or there is a different problem, consider buying a new controller, as the solution above is the only known way to fix a controller.

Warnings

  • Be Very Careful if opening the PS2 controller. If a part is broken the controller itself will NOT work anymore.

Things You'll Need

  • A PS2 console
  • A DualShock 2 controller
