Fix Multiple Albums in iTunes

Have you ever opened iTunes and saw that songs from the same album are put as separate albums in iTunes and/or have duplicates of and album on the iPod?

Steps

Resolve Multiple Albums

  1. Search the album in iTunes. (it should come up as two separate albums in iTunes.)
  2. Select Ctrl (Cmd on mac) A to select the entire album.
  3. Right click and select get info. (a message will pop up asking "are you sure you want to change info for multiple items.")
  4. Click yes and you'll be redirected to the info screen.
  5. You should see a slot for "artist",and "album artist."
  6. Make sure that the album artist field is not blank and that it does not say "Mixed" (if it is blank, or says "Mixed", iTunes will show them as separate albums because they have different artists.)
  7. If this didn't fix the problem, you may need to download the newest iPod/iPhone software (iOS 8.1.2). This is compatible with the 5th gen iPod Touch as well as the iPhone 4s-6 plus as well as the iPad 2,3,4 the iPad air and finally the iPad mini 1 and 2. Also, you should download the newest version of iTunes. (you can download from apple's website on the iTunes + iPod support page or in iTunes itself.)

Tips

  • Download iTunes 10 and update your iPod/iPhone software.
  • You should be able to download iTunes 10 from http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=search&product=&q=itunes.
  • Download those at apple's website under iPod + iTunes support section.
  • You can update your iPod/iPhone in iTunes. iOS 7.0.6 is the most current version supported on the 5th gen iPod Touch, iPhone 4*-5s. It's also available on the iPad 2-4, the mini, and the air. note: While iOS 7 is available on iPhone 4, 4s, and the iPad 2, not all features are supported.
  • iOS 7 is really made for apple's newest products, like iPhone 5 (discontinued) and newer.

Warnings

  • If you do download the newest version of iTunes and/or update your device, make sure that you back it up before you update. This will keep your iDevice from deleting your iTunes library.
  • Make sure you transfer your purchases. a message should pop up asking you if you want to transfer purchases. You should always say yes.
  • If you don't transfer your purchases, they will be deleted from your iPod (and that's never good.)

Things You'll Need

  • iPod/iPhone
  • iTunes
