Format Nokia Symbian Series 60 Phones
Nokia Symbian Series 60-based phones have a copy of the OS present in the built-in ROM. When you format the phone, the OS gets restored from the ROM to the phone memory overwriting the existing setup.

Steps
Using a Three-Key Combination
- Make sure your phone is fully charged.
- Backup your contacts list and personal files to MMC memory card (if possible).
- Switch on your S60 phone.
- Press and hold these three keys together:
- Red dial key,
- Sharp key (#)
- One key (1)
- Press the power on/off to switch off the S60 phone. Do not let go the three keys until you see the “formatting” screen displayed
- Wait a few minutes until the format is complete. Your S60 will now be at its original factory settings
Using a Number Combination
- Before you format your phone, make sure you back up all your ringtones, SMS and picture messages and most importantly your contacts. You can use the Nokia PC Suite to do this.
- Press the red key.
- Select disconnect.
- Once you’ve done this, key in *#7370# *#7780# . It will immediately prompt you to restart your phone.
- Select ‘Yes’ and the phone will restart after formatting. It takes about 2 to 3 minutes to complete the process. Also ensure that your phone is well charged before you format.
- Now restore all your ringtones, messages and contacts and you once again have a fresh OS.
Tips
- Do it by yourself and save your money. You don’t need to send your phone to get repaired somewhere and being charged for the cost.
- Some licences are in the memory card. See it before formatting.

Warnings
- Make sure you're not using memory card password protection, because you can lose access to data stored on memory card after formatting.
