Freeze Nuts
Nuts can be frozen to retain their freshness. It's a great way to prevent their oxidation and to stop them turning rancid.
Steps
- Select the nuts. They can be raw, toasted, roasted, or ground. If you've just freshly cracked nuts, this is a great way to ensure that they keep their freshness.
- Place the nuts into an airtight (tightly covered) container. Alternatively, place them into sealable plastic bags that wrap them well.
- Place in the freezer. The nuts can keep this way for up to one year.
- Thaw. When you want to use the frozen nuts, do as follows:
- Remove them from the freezer;
- Allow them to sit at room temperature briefly, then use.
- Or, microwave them briefly on the defrost mode.
Tips
- Be sure to label and date the nuts so that you're aware of what they are (especially if ground) and how long they've been in the freezer.
