Freeze Nuts

Nuts can be frozen to retain their freshness. It's a great way to prevent their oxidation and to stop them turning rancid.

Steps

  1. Select the nuts. They can be raw, toasted, roasted, or ground. If you've just freshly cracked nuts, this is a great way to ensure that they keep their freshness.
  2. Place the nuts into an airtight (tightly covered) container. Alternatively, place them into sealable plastic bags that wrap them well.
  3. Place in the freezer. The nuts can keep this way for up to one year.
  4. Thaw. When you want to use the frozen nuts, do as follows:
    • Remove them from the freezer;
    • Allow them to sit at room temperature briefly, then use.
    • Or, microwave them briefly on the defrost mode.

Tips

  • Be sure to label and date the nuts so that you're aware of what they are (especially if ground) and how long they've been in the freezer.
