Toast Nuts on the Stove
Toasting nuts is useful for baking, cereal making, and as decorative elements on a range of foods from cakes to fruit salads. Toasted nuts are also a good snack food. Toasting on the stove is very straightforward; if you'd rather toast in the oven, however, check out wikiHow's article on toasting nuts in the oven.
Ingredients
- Nuts (preferably still in shells)
Steps
- Purchase or harvest nuts. If purchasing, it is preferable to buy nuts still in their shells as these are the freshest. Shell nuts if needed.
- Place nuts in a frying pan/skillet.
- Put the frying pan/skillet on the stovetop. Cook over a moderate heat until the nuts start to colour. It is important to toss the nuts to prevent them from over-cooking and burning.
- Remove from the heat source and leave to cool.
- Use as required.
Tips
- Store toasted nuts in an air-tight container, preferably glass.
