Get Dig in Pokémon Sapphire

TM 28, or Dig, is a versatile move to have. Dig can be used as an attack, an instant escape from any cave, and it is essential for capturing three legendary Pokémon known as the Three Regis. However, even if you don't plan on catching them all, Dig is a great move to have on hand.

Steps

Finding Dig

  1. Go to Fallarbor Town. The little village is in the upper right corner of the world, and you can find it easily with your town map. To get there, walk left on route 116, near Mt. Chimney.
  2. Head to route 114 on the left side of town. You're seeking out the Fossil Maniac's house. His little brother will give you Dig.
  3. Enter the Fossil Maniac's house. It should be the first house you see on 114. Look for the sign out front that says: "Fossil Maniac's House!" Go inside.
  4. Talk to the little brother to earn Dig. The younger brother will give you Dig, also known as TM 28. You should also talk to the Fossil Maniac, as he can help uncover several fossil Pokémon that you could bring back to life.

Using Dig

  1. Teach Dig to a ground Pokémon. Dig is a ground-type move, so you'll get a 50% attack bonus if you have a ground Pokémon using it in battle.[1]
  2. Use Dig in battle to disappear for a turn, then attack the next. Dig is a two-turn attack, making it an effective way to dodge certain attacks.
    • In the first move, your Pokémon digs down and away from the battlefield.
    • On the second turn, they pop up again, doing damage and returning to normal battle mode.
  3. Use Dig to escape any cave instantly. Dig can be used as an "out" while exploring, like an infinite Escape Rope. If you're ever in trouble in a cave and need to get out before fainting, use Dig to move instantly to the entrance.
  4. Know that you need dig to catch the rare "Three Regis." You'll need Dig in order to release these three rare, powerful Pokemon. You must use Dig by the Braille Tablet found in an underwater cavern off of Route 134.

Tips

  • If you lose the TM, Trapinch learns it at level 41. It tries to evolve into Vibrava at 35, however. Since it won't learn Dig as Vibrava, give it an Everstone, or press B to cancel when it evolves. You can catch level 20 Trapinch in the desert on Route 111.

Warnings

  • There is only one Dig TM in the whole game.
  • If you teach this TM to a Pokémon, be careful if you put it in the Daycare. If it levels up enough to learn new moves, Dig could be forgotten.
