Get Your Toolbar Back

Are you missing your File menu? Is the fancy toolbar that you installed in your browser no longer there? There are a variety of ways your menus and toolbars may have gotten hidden accidentally, but thankfully it only takes a few clicks to restore them.

Steps

Restoring Internet Explorer Toolbars

  1. Ensure you're not in Full-Screen mode. Press F11 to toggle Full Screen mode in Internet Explorer. When Full-Screen mode is on, you will not be able to see any of the menu or toolbars. If this doesn't solve your problem, read on.
  2. Right-click on title bar. If your toolbar is missing, it may have been hidden from your action bars at the top of the window. Right-clicking on the title bar at the very top of the window will bring up a list of all your toolbars. Enabled toolbars will have a checkmark next to them.
  3. Click the toolbar you want to display. If the toolbar you want is listed but isn't checked, click it to re-enable it. You may be asked to confirm that you want to display it, depending on the toolbar.
    • If you are missing your File, Edit, View, and Tools menu options, select "Menu bar" from the list.
    • If you still can't see a toolbar that you installed yourself, such as Google Toolbar, read on.
  4. Open the Add-on Manager. Your toolbar may have been disabled through Internet Explorer's Add-on Manager. Click the Gear button or the Tools menu and select "Manage Add-ons".
    • If you can't see the menu bar, press Alt to display it temporarily.
  5. Select the "Toolbars and Extensions" category. All of the extensions that you've added to Internet Explorer will be listed here. If your missing toolbar is not listed, you will likely need to Install-Google-Toolbar.

Restoring Firefox Toolbars

  1. Ensure you're not in Full-Screen mode. Press F11 to toggle Full Screen mode in Firefox. When Full-Screen mode is on, you will not be able to see any of the menu or toolbars. If this doesn't solve your problem, read on.
  2. Click the "View" menu. If you can't see the menu bar, press the Alt key.
  3. Select "Toolbars" and then click the toolbar you want to enable.
    • If you are missing your File, Edit, View, and Tools menu options, select "Menu bar" from the list.
    • If you still can't see a toolbar that you installed yourself, read on.
  4. Click the Firefox Menu button (☰) and select "Add-ons".
  5. Look for the toolbar you want to re-enable. If your toolbar is still installed but currently disabled, it will be on this list.
  6. Click the Enable button. This will turn the toolbar back on. It should appear back in your browser window.
    • If your toolbar is not listed here, you will need to download and install it again.
