Get a Date in Middle School

It seems like when people are young, they want someone else to call "their own". Extremely normal, but hard to get. Having a boyfriend or girlfriend at a fairly young age is more complex than it seems. It's great if you really like someone. Wanting to be in a relationship, just because it's the cool thing to do, isn't something you should do. You should not like someone because you feel forced to. Of course, the first step to a relationship is a date. Hopefully the following will help.

Steps

  1. Be more friendly with your gender preference. Hang out with them and just relax when around them. Don't be rude. Have nice conversations with them. You could even ask for help from one of them.
  2. Pick someone and find out what they like. Be realistic about whom you pick, however. Relationships work better if you have a few things in common. Ask them about what they like and why.
  3. Ask them out! If you feel too scared to do it yourself, ask a friend to (Note: This will most likely make them say no because they will either think you don't have enough confidence or that it's a joke). Remember to not worry too much if they say no. Just keep working on them and they'll come around.
  4. Smile as much as you can. It shows that you aren't grumpy and unpleasant to be with. Try to make him/her smile.

Tips

  • Try not to be scared every time you see him/her I mean, it is your crush, you want to be with them, right?!
  • When you tease your crush, make it a bit flirty. Never make him/her think you are making fun of them.
  • The biggest barrier to break is the touch barrier. If you break it, it all gets better from there. Even if it is just a friendly hug, it is still nice.
  • Don't be afraid and listen to their needs.
  • Stay calm, no matter what.
  • If you're scared to ask him/her out, start by telling him/her you like them. It will make things easier when you ask them out.
  • If your crush likes one of your friends, don't try to be like them to get your crush to like you because you are not them; you are who you are.
  • Don't talk about past relationships.
  • Try to resist chasing someone that your friend really likes. This could lead to complications in your existing friendship.
  • If you don't know what you're doing, act confident and pretend to know what you're doing.
  • Wait awhile before you ask them out. If you've met about a month ago, let them get to know you for you. If you exchange numbers let them call you first. Don't look like a desperate loser.
  • Tell the person you like them. This will take much less effort.

Warnings

  • The worst thing you could possibly do is make fun of your crush's (or even your friend's) looks. Example: weird smile, big nose, crazy hair, etc. If you do, she/he will hate you. It is okay to tease a small bit about quirky habits, as long as they are comfortable being teased about it. Also, be sure to balance these with compliments! Also, make sure that your crush knows you are just joking. If she thinks you are making fun of her, she will get the wrong idea.
  • Sometimes in middle school, having a boyfriend or girlfriend is more of a title than a relationship. Don't ever be surprised if you break up quickly.
  • Don't act different to the girl/guy when you are dating. Act the same and still be nice and friendly (it is a good way to avoid break up).
  • Be nice to everyone! Girls/guys love sweet guys/girls!
  • Remember this is user submitted information and may not work on all girls/boys because all girls/guys are different.
  • Be yourself! People don't like it when somebody tries to be someone other than them! If they don't like you for who you are, then find someone who does.
  • Don't stalk them or make them feel uncomfortable. It makes you seem creepy and that person will spread the word about you; limiting your choices.
  • Some girls DON'T want a boyfriend. It doesn't matter what reason, but if she rejects you, then don't be a moron about it. The same goes for boys. Just act like normal and you guys could be good friends. Also make sure to be yourself, don't pretend to be someone you're not.
  • Ask a person out because of their personality - not their looks.
  • Don't dress like a maniac. Some guys like to have the messy but clean style of hair, like they just didn't comb it.
  • If she says no, DO NOT keep at it. It is the worst thing that you can do.
