Get a Guy to Dance with You at a Homecoming Prom

Homecoming is a celebration, usually formal, and as such often includes a dance. If a young lady attends a dance she will most likely desire someone to dance with. While this article will not tell you how to get a date to the dance (okay, it will: ask someone. Now moving on...) it will focus on how to get people to ask you to dance when you're there.

Steps

  1. Look nice! There are any number of resources to help you get ready for the dance. These include relatives, friends, and articles on this site. Men want to dance with pretty women. Before you complain about this acknowledge that most women want to dance with handsome men. Taking the time to work on your appearance tells a man that you're worth that time... and therefore his time as well.
  2. Get in the mood before you go. While getting ready and even while driving put on some music you like to dance to. Anything with a good beat, anything that will make you anxious to dance will do. Get excited, get in the mood!
  3. At the dance make yourself available. Stand at the edge of the dance floor. Tap your foot or sway lightly to the music. This tells men who see you that you are interested in dancing.
  4. If your friends are with you, make sure you are standing facing the dance floor and do not form an enclosed circle.
  5. Ask someone to dance. This is the twenty-first century and women are allowed to ask now. Really. It's okay. If you're too embarrassed to say, "Would you like to dance?" there's always, "I'd love for you to ask me to dance." Every man in the world will grin ear-to-ear upon hearing that.
  6. It's really not that hard to get a guy to dance with you, if you look halfway decent and walk up to him in a crowd and start dancing with him he will follow. If he doesn't (this will almost never happen) then just laugh at him and walk off and try again. Just laughing and leaving puts you in control whether they like it or not.

Tips

  • A couple of dance lessons won't hurt, but if all you know is free-form grooving (the universal high school fast dance) or the penguin shuffle (the universal high school slow dance) don't be worried. Chances are you're more comfortable with that than most men are.
  • Men don't dance because most of us don't know how. To help a man get over that initial hurdle be enthusiastic but not pushy, and when you get him out on the floor be complimentary but not simpering.
  • If you're not having fun, leave. Being at a dance where you don't get to do any dancing, where you feel left out and lonely, is a miserable experience. Go catch a movie. Better yet, grab some friends and watch a movie. Better yet, just grab some friends. In eighty years when we're on our deathbeds we'll wish we could have back all the time we wasted at places we didn't want to be, forcing ourselves to do things no one cared about.
  • At highschool dances the big thing is to grind. If you do not know how to grind watch a youtube video on how to grind. Its pretty straight forward.
  • Ballroom dance is very popular at the moment due to shows like Dancing With the Stars. If you want to learn ballroom dancing that will be useful in a colloquial setting then take classes in east coast swing, west coast wing, cha cha, hustle, and/or nightclub two step.

Warnings

  • Do NOT sit down. It sends the message you are not interested in dancing.
  • Do NOT stand in a circle with all of your friends. It makes you unapproachable.

Things You'll Need

  • A pretty dress.
  • Dancing shoes.
  • An enthusiastic attitude.
  • A pair of socks (If you take off your shoes to dance)
