Steps
- Plan before you get your piercing done, like if you want your ear pierced start now by putting your hair down more if you don't already. This way your parents are less likely to suspect things when the time comes.
- Get your piercing (preferably in a place that can be covered with clothing). Go with a friend or someone that you trust. Make sure your parents don't know about it.
- Avoid your parents as much as possible, especially when your piercings are noticeable.
- Keeping piercings constantly covered by tight clothing slow the already slow healing process. Piercing studios often quote the average healing time for a well-maintained belly button piercing as being between 6 months to a year! Worse, tight clothing can cause the piercing to shift over time, causing it to surface prematurely.
- When come across your parents, be cool or else they'll suspect it.
- Hide your piercing. For example, for ear piercings, don't tie your hair back. Let it down so, your hair would cover it.
- Hide the piercing rings somewhere your parents won't look for.
Tips
- Consider first that any piercing studio willing to pierce someone under the age of 18 without a consenting parent there is NOT a reputable person looking out for your health. You may wind up with a poorly placed piercing that is prone to infection. Infected or poorly cared for piercings can leave terrible scars.
- Think about getting pierced with clear glass jewelry/retainers, as they're less noticeable than steel or titanium pieces.
- Try talking to your parents in advance about what piercing you want and why you want it. Talk about why they don't want you to get pierced (for instance, it might make finding a job harder). Find out what consequences you may face if you get pierced without their consent. Knowing all this, you can evaluate if it's worth getting pierced without their consent.
- The only real way to sport a piercing that is healthy and good looking is by getting pierced at a reputable studio with parental consent. A good piercer can give you and your parents all the directions you'd need to keep the piercing healthy. A piercing being constantly hidden will never, ever, heal correctly, and you'll be left with nasty scars that never go away. Gross scars are a high price to pay for being too impatient to wait until you change your parent's minds on piercings.
- If you really want a piercing, but it will be in a noticeable place, consider saving that piercing for when you're older and no longer supported by your parents. Instead, get a piercing that's naturally hidden to satisfy the piercing urge (naval, septum, etc.)
Warnings
- Most REPUTABLE places won't pierce minors without parental consent anyway. If you find one that does, they're practicing bad business and the likelihood of them using sterile instruments and proper piercing techniques is low. Blood borne diseases are terrible to have.
- Your parents WILL eventually find out, so be ready for what they'll say.
