Harvest Pole Beans for Winter Use

Grow pole beans and pick what you can eat or give away during the summer, and have extra for storage in the winter months.

Steps

  1. Pick pole beans during the summer months.
  2. Let any extra beans dry up on the vine in the fall after the growing season is over.
  3. Gather dried beans and vines, hang them up on rafters, hooks or anything you have available, or simply put them in boxes or bags.

Tips

  • During the winter months, separate pod with beans from the vine and add to soups and stews as needed. The dehydrated beans are like hard beans they soften in boiling water and the taste is almost like you just picked them from the garden.
  • You can separate the beans from the pod if you prefer, the dried up state of the beans make it easy.
