Have Fun While Cleaning Your Room

Do you hate cleaning your room? Does it take you about an hour and a half just to get motivated to start? Well this article will tell you how to get motivated and clean your room quickly, while having fun!

Steps

  1. Set up a trash bag as a basketball hoop and if you don't make it in you lose the game. Throw all papers away and if you find pieces to a game, chuck those too, unless you know what game they go to. If you don't, the game is not important enough.
  2. Pretend it is a race against the clock. Give yourself a half hour or else the clock wins, and no one likes losing to a thing that doesn't have a brain.
  3. Try turning on the radio or singing. Most of the time this is very helpful in getting you in the mood to clean. If you have the music on, you could tidy whilst dancing. For instance, if you had something one side of the room and it needed to be the other, you could twirl, fox trot or even Cha-Cha your way there! Put on your phone music!!
  4. Focus on one certain area at a time. This will help you start cleaning your room. Don't look at it as the big picture because you will get discouraged.
  5. Don't take a break. This just leads to procrastination.
  6. Set a goal that you want to do once you get out of your room. This will help you clean faster. Make sure you really want to do this goal, though.
  7. Don't worry, be happy. Turn on the radio, and listen to a local radio station. These are the words to live by while you are cleaning and throughout your life.
  8. Don't put anything under your bed or in your closet, no matter what. Parents will most likely look under the bed, and in your closet as well. In other words, actually clean your room, don't just shove trash and junk in places that seem convenient just to get it over with. Only put things in your closet or under your bed if it really belongs there.
  9. Don't have your parents do it for you. If your parents do it for you, you will never learn from experiences that you will come upon later in life.
  10. Turn off any social networking sites. You may become distracted very easily!
  11. Have a snack before you clean! You won't be tempted by the snacks in the pantry when you're cleaning.
  12. Set up your camera and record all your cleaning process. Then, fast forward your video and show all your friends how hard working you are!

Tips

  • Never, ever be tempted by your bed. Once you lie down, you're not going to want to get up afterwords.
  • Try cleaning something before the song ends. It'll be like a challenge.
  • The area where you have all the issues with start there first . Maybe even set a goal try to have your parents agree that if you clean your room you get a reward.
  • Whilst cleaning your room, put on some shorts and a tank top. The more you're not covered actually makes you feel good and quick on your feet.
  • Don't let parents clean your room or else you won't know where your things are!
  • Always make sure tempting books, computers and toys are out of your sight while cleaning so you don't spend a half hour in your "zone".
  • Listen to songs with fast, even paces. This will motivate you.
  • Be creative with how to make it fun and create your own games. Have fun with it, too, and don't spend an hour creating and playing the game.
  • Don't get discouraged if it is a big mess. It most likely won't be when you think about it in sections.
  • Don't worry about things going on later that day - that will make you stop.
  • It's not fun cleaning your room so maintain it clean.
  • If you get distracted by different things try to set a time goal for yourself. Distractions just add time.
  • Time yourself for each section you clean, and try to clean the next section more quickly than the one before.
  • Do not get too occupied in the music because this will just slow you down even more.
  • Never turn on the TV, because this will surely distract you from cleaning.
  • If you are really tempted to go to your computer and play then add the website to your favorites and then close the window. Never leave a site up.
  • If you have issues with invisible boundaries for separating the mess into sections, then make visible boundaries by somehow putting visible lines to mark off sections.
    • Note: lines must not be permanent, and shouldn't add to the mess. this will just make more cleaning necessary.
  • Don't watch TV, but maybe you can listen to it! If you have a laptop, iPod Touch, iPad or another similar device, then turn on a TV show you're familiar with , but hide the device somewhere like in your closet or under your bed, where you can hear it, but won't get distracted watching it. If you don't have a device, turn the TV on in another room and turn the volume up as long as it won't disturb anyone.
  • Remember that the only reason you have to clean is because you didn't clean up after yourself in the first place.
  • If your parents let you, ask if you can clean half of your room and the other half tomorrow.
  • Act like it's a big cleaning dress up game and put on all the things in your room that can be worn on your body. Then when you're done cleaning put those things where they belong.
  • Clean your room with a sibling if you have one. The process will go faster.
  • If you are listening to music and need to get something from one place to another, pick it up and pretend it's a microphone. Pretend you're on stage. Go to the place where the item belongs, and put it there. Don't worry about not finishing the song, you could find something in the area where you put your "microphone" that goes somewhere else and do the same with that. Keep on going until you get everything you can into it's place.
  • If you've not wore an item of clothing for more than 18 months, bin it or put it in a charity bag.
  • Don't start playing with the things that you are cleaning. This will get you distracted.
  • Let lot's of natural light in; it makes the room look more open and less dark and closed in.
  • Don't stop and take breaks because it will take longer and hard to get motivated.
  • Try cleaning it in sections.
  • After you do something always make sure to clean it up before starting something new.
  • Make a drawing of your room of what you want it to look like. Hopefully it will motivate you to work towards your goal.
  • Do not pile things up or you will be moving the mess around your room. Put things where they belong when you first pick them up.
  • After cleaning one part of the room or doing one part, eat a treat or a few chips you enjoy.
  • If possible, try to leave the door open and play some music: It will helps to motivate you while cleaning your room!

  • Be careful not sucking up large objects into the vacuum.
  • Never shut the closet door if there is no handle on the door when you are in it.
  • Don't crawl under your bed; you might get hurt on sharp objects.
