Make Your Room Seem Cleaner

Tired of being nagged by your folks because your room is piled with junk? Or are you just sick of looking at it but you don't want to take that much time cleaning? Try these steps to make your room appear cleaner without putting in that much effort.

Steps

  1. Turn on some energetic music. That way, you won't get bored, and you will go faster so that this can be a workout too!
  2. Pick up the larger objects, the ones that take up the most space. That way your room already looks cleaner, without really picking up anything.
  3. Pile up any papers you're unsure about into an organized stack or file them into cute folders so that you can get excited about organization. If you avoid distractions and take the time to do this properly, you'll know where your papers are when you need them.
  4. Toss stuffed animals and place them somewhere on a shelf, or throw them in your closet.
  5. Put away any toys, games, hobbies, etc. that are just lying around.
  6. Carefully re-shelve books into the bookshelf. Make sure they are lined up straight and neat.
  7. Make a pile of dirty or clean clothes, put the filthy ones in the hamper, and place the clean ones in your drawers or closet. Alternatively, you can shove the whole lot away.
  8. Clear surfaces to make the room appear less cluttered.
  9. Throw away any trash that is lying around and, if you want, buy a medium sized trash can and put it in your room so you won't have to make trips to the kitchen.
  10. Make your bed.
  11. If you want, spray some Febreze or Lysol to make it enjoyable.
  12. Alternatively, pick up all your clothes, then stuff everything under the bed, in boxes, etc., then clean it when you have more time.
  13. Dab a bit of vanilla essence on the light globe of your lamp then turn it on, it will give your room a really sweet cafe smell that makes people relax.
  14. Squeeze a lemon into your trash can - it freshens up everything.

Tips

  • If you stack things it looks neater than if the piles are spread out.
  • Don't hide things it is more work than cleaning up.
  • Remember—organization is the key here, as it can deceive people.
  • Don't leave stuff cluttered all around, instead put some stuff in tubs, bins, files, and other storage things you might have around.
  • It helps to throw things out, but do it quickly! If you think about it too much, you'll have second thoughts and might end up keeping it.
  • Empty your trash can before you start (and have a lot of bags/trash cans). That way, you will be able to clean non-stop. If you don't have a trash can, use a large garbage bag.
  • Also use storage tubs and label them such as off-season clothes, toys etc.
  • If you see something that needs facing, take the time otherwise it might get messy.
  • Sometimes you might not need something anymore so put it in a box and label it for when you use it again; you can store the box in a garage.
  • Hang up photos on your wall, not posters, and add things to your room that are 'you'! Go over the floor twice a week and always make your bed!
  • Once your done cleaning your room, reward yourself so you don't feel like you cleaned your room for nothing!
  • Change it up every now and then.
  • If you are in a hurry and don't have time to really clean your room, put everything in your closet or under your bed to sort through later.
  • Don't let pets in your room. If you do your room won't smell nice for long.

Warnings

  • Remember those small objects you dumped in that box? Don't leave them there. They can pile up and pretty soon you'll have an army of disgustingly small objects, so remember to get rid of them sometimes.
  • You might as well clean your room and keep it clean, but this is a start.
