Steps
- Make a list of all the tasks that need to get done. Remember that no certain task is too small.
- Put it somewhere visible, carry on doing stuff and make sure you take off what you manage to do.
- Ask your family members to each take on one task once in a while. If they do help, thank them. For children, give them a big hug. You may also want to provide a treat. Some kids you can bribe with food, others money. Make it fun, and it will get done!
- Tell your family about the dangers of a dirty house: bugs, Allergy Proof Your Home, dust mites, terrible smell, illness, cluster, tripping over items, etc.
Tips
- When kids ask to do play or go to a park say once the chores are done. Give them motivators. That always works!
- With list in hand, it is far easier to make people compromise to help around the house. Peer pressure is a valuable tool. There is bound to be somebody that is more helpful, making the others look bad and possibly making them more willing to cooperate.
- When the kids have done a chore, remember to praise them for their work. This will encourage them to do more.
Warnings
- With some people nothing will do. Don't be afraid to show your displeasure, but realize that perhaps there are other issues at play.
