Hide Valuables in Your Car

Sometimes you may not feel safe leaving a diamond ring in plain sight when leaving your car. This article will tell you how to hide items in your car.

Steps

  1. Figure out why you will be hiding things. Are you shopping in a bad neighborhood or leaving your car in the school’s parking lot? Public parking buildings? Think about whether you would just be better off keeping the item with you or just leaving it at home.
  2. Identify what you will be hiding in places other than your glove box and under the seats.
  3. Hide as much as you can before you arrive. If anyone is watching you, you will be a target if it is obvious that have things to hide.

    • Get creative. There are many clever ways to hide things. It will make you safe and smart, and sometimes it is okay to pretend to be a secret agent.
    • An iPod will fit in an Altoids box. Other similar sized items may fit into a washed-out fast food soda cup.
    • Re-check things before you get out of the car.
    • Lock your doors and close your windows.



Tips

  • If you have a car stereo, it is a good idea to get one with a removable face plate, so that you can take it off and hide it while you are not in the car. Stereos are big finds for thieves.
  • Park in the busiest part of the lot towards the front.
  • If you feel it necessary, check your car periodically while you are away.

  • Regardless of how well you hide things, you should always have an alarm and security installed in your car. You should always lock your doors and close your windows.
