Install Your Premounted Winter Tires

Having winter tires on your vehicle is a wise investment for winter climate. By following these instructions on how to install pre-mounted winter tires, you will be surprised how much time and money you will save by installing the tires yourself.

Steps

  1. Gather the materials needed for the job.
  2. Remove all four wheel covers (if equipped) by sliding the screwdriver between the wheel and cover. Gently pry the cover off.
  3. With a standard driver and socket, loosen slightly all wheel nuts on all four wheels. Never use a torque wrench to break loose fasteners.
  4. Place the Jack under the right front side of the vehicle and lift the proper sub-frame of vehicle (see owners manual of vehicle for subframe locations). Lift the vehicle until the front right tire does not contact the ground.
  5. Support your vehicle by placing the safety stand under the subframe next to the jack.
  6. Lower jack until vehicle subframe sits on safety stand.
  7. Remove the loosened wheel nuts on the raised wheel.
  8. Remove the raised wheel.
  9. Install your winter wheel/tire.
  10. Install wheel nuts with round end facing wheel. Use the torque wrench to tighten until tire turns. CAUTION! when tightening the wheel nuts always tighten in a cross pattern, ex.top the bottom, left then right.
  11. Raise vehicle enough to remove safety stand.
  12. Remove safety stand.
  13. Lower vehicle.
  14. Repeat steps 4-13 on the remaining three sides of vehicle.
  15. Using the torque wrench, torque all wheel nuts to {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}}- pounds, one wheel at a time using a cross pattern when tightening the nuts.
  16. Re-install all wheel covers. NOTE: when installing covers ensure tire valve stems are positioned in proper hole on the cover.
  17. Check that all tire pressures are to vehicle manufactures recommended P.S.I (the drivers door frame on the vehicle has a sticker containing the recommended P.S.I)

Warnings

  • Always install the round end of the wheel nuts facing the wheel.
  • Ensure parking brake is applied, and transmission is in the park position.
  • Check your owners manual for proper lifting points for your vehicle.
  • Always use safety stands.
  • Check your tire pressure before driving your vehicle.
  • Always use a cross pattern when tightening your wheel nuts
  • Only raise your vehicle on a flat hard surface (cement preferably), clean of debris such a stones and sand.
  • Always torque your wheel nuts using a torque wrench.
