Learn to Act Like a Fictional Character

Ever wondered what it would be like to be a fictional character? Have you ever tried to act like one? Or have you wondered what would happen if you had a personality change? Here are some suggestions for absorbing the characteristics of a fictional character. This is great for doing drama or cosplay.

Steps

  1. Think of a character you've read, seen, or viewed.
  2. Think of their characteristics. This article will use the example of "L" from Death Note for purposes of making the article more understandable.
  3. Note down what the character's key characteristics are. For instance, with L: He sits with his knees bent and feet on the chair, he doesn't sleep a lot, and eats a lot of sweets. Try to look for things your character does or says all the time, and try to mimic the way they phrase things (even when you're only thinking to yourself).
  4. Act like the character. Once you have the key features thought out, try acting them out. Try wearing similar clothes. Put your hair in the same way as theirs. Basically, you want to look like the character as much as possible.
  5. Keep your own personality. If you have decided to borrow the characteristics of a fictional character, then alternatively act the character out, but keep in mind that you are still yourself.
  6. Try to act out the character around other people. Now that you are the fictional character, you may now do what you like with this character of yours. Continue being this character for a week or so. If you think your life has improved, then feel free to borrow the character's characteristics as much as you want; otherwise stop and revert to being yourself again.

Tips

  • It's always fun to do when you're bored.
  • If you decide to go somewhere in character, you should probably do it with someone who would understand (another fan of the media your character is from, for instance) and tell them first. Or, you could go alone.
  • You don't have to be that one character - you can always borrow the characteristics from other characters.
  • If there is a certain characteristic that you don't like about the character, then just forget about that one particular characteristic and use the others.
  • Just remember you are still you. You are only borrowing a characteristic of a fictional character.

Warnings

  • Be warned that you may be teased for this. Don't go over the top.
  • If your friends are upset or tell you that you have completely changed, then ask yourself, does this one person's opinion matter? If this is who you want to be then so be it, after all, it’s their own fault for being so sentimental!
  • You are always going to be yourself, if you have always been a tranquil person and you decided to borrow the characteristics of a Berserker, then I'm afraid you will not become strong. You may be recklessly determined but you will not be strong.
  • Don't be silly enough to buy the cosplay costumes; unless you plan to wear it all the time then it's a complete waste of money.
