Ingredients
Chili Dogs
- 1 Sabrett brand (2 oz) all-beef frankfurter
- 1 regular hot dog roll
- 3 tablespoons A&W Coney Island Sauce (see next sub-section)
- 1 tablespoon chopped white onion
- 1/2 tablespoon Kraft shredded milk cheddar cheese (optional)
Coney Island Sauce
- 1 pound ground meat/beef
- 1 6-ounce can tomato paste
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard (prepared)
- 1 tablespoon dried minced onion
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
Steps
Chili Dog Sauce
- Get a good-sized saucepan, about 2 quarts or so. Place the ground beef in it and brown it completely. Make sure to crumble it into small pieces as you're cooking it. Season the meat with a little pepper and salt.
- Without draining the fat/oil from the meat, add the rest of the ingredients for the Coney Island Sauce. Lower the heat to a simmer and leave it uncovered for about 30 to 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Allow the sauce to thicken.
- Remove from heat and leave mixture to cool. When cooled, cover with a lid or Saran Wrap and store it in the refrigerator until needed.
Chili Dogs
- Take another saucepan and fill it with water and heat until boiling. Remove from the heat and place the hot dogs into the heated water. Cover saucepan with a lid and set aside for about 10 minutes.
- Microwave only the amount of sauce that you're going to use. Refrigerate the remainder.
- Microwave the hot dog rolls for 10 seconds each.
- Remove the hot dogs from the water with tongs, or drain the water out and remove.
- Put a hot dog in each hot dog roll and spread about 3 tablespoons of the sauce onto the hot dog; optional toppings include chopped raw onions and grated cheese.
